CANTON GARDEN CENTER
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS
2008
|
The Canton Garden Center Scholarship Committee
is currently looking for ecology-minded students and adults who
have an interest in conservation and the outdoors to take advantage
of the camp opportunities for Summer 2008. Mrs. Mary Regula founded
the Canton Garden Center's Scholarship Program that has been in
existence for over 36 years.
There are two types of scholarships offered, and
they are described as follows:
1. Ohio Forestry & Wildlife Conservation
Camp (www.ohioforest.org), located at Camp Muskingum in Carroll
County, offers a one-week summer residence camp (June 15-20) for
students who have completed 8th grade and are at least 15 years
old. Students attending this camp will participate in classes
covering tree identification, silviculture (forestry), ecology
and forest products.
2. Maine Audubon Camp (www.maineaudubon.org)
offers a variety of camp sessions, workshops and trips in ecology,
birds, botany, insects, weather and marine life. Located in the
state of Maine, workshop sessions for adults (18 years of age
or older) are offered on special weeks throughout the summer.
The selected recipients for the above
camps will receive camp scholarships that will include housing,
food, and instructional costs. Scholarship recipients must provide
their own transportation to and from the campsites. Brochures
are available on the Internet or at our office upon request.
The Canton Garden Center offers these
scholarships to applicants in Stark, Wayne, Tuscarawas, Columbiana
and Carroll counties. Qualified applicants must fill out an application
form and write a short essay about why the applicant would like
to attend the camp.
Application forms are available at
the Canton Garden Center, 1615 Stadium Park Drive NW, Canton.
Office hours are 10 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday through Friday. Our telephone
number is 330-455-6172.
The deadline for applications is
April 12, 2008 and interviews will be scheduled for April 19,
2008 at the Canton Garden Center.
